EIGHT months after making its world debut at the Paris motor show in September 2010, the second-generation Continental GT coupe has arrived in the Antipodes, with a regional launch in New Zealand ahead of first deliveries to Australian showrooms in the coming weeks.
This time around, the Conti has not created the waves of sensation the first generation brought when it was hailed as the first all-new car from the hallowed British brand in seven decades.
But drawing on the Conti GT’s already considerable strengths, Bentley has made some fundamental changes with this new generation – more power, revised chassis and a redesigned cabin among them – that boost the car’s appeal and make it even more inspiring to drive.

Released: January 2004
Ended: May 2011
Family Tree: ContinentalTHE Continental GT coupe was a sensation when it burst into Australian showrooms early in 2004, following its launch the previous November.
As the first all-new Bentley in 70 years, and the first product from the new mid-sized Bentley (MSB) model family, it was a car that demanded people forget everything they knew about the hallowed British brand.
The Conti GT didn’t throw tradition out the window, but came with a heady mix of power and passion, and all sorts of accolades – not least of which was the world’s fastest four-seater production car.
Sedan and convertible bodystyles followed the GT coupe late in 2006, along with new derivatives including the Speed flagship, which arrived with the GT’s midlife facelift in 2008 and featured a 449kW/750Nm version of the 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 engine.
