Car reviews - Mazda - MX-5 - convertible

Dash

14 Feb 2001

A SEA of dark plastic surrounds the driver in the MX-5 cockpit. The dashboard has soft padding bonded onto the upper half and features a quartet of traditional MX-5 circular air vents. Two large analogue - and eminently readable - gauges, now in a shade of navy blue instead of black, are used for the speedo and tacho, flanked by smaller fuel and temperature arcs. Meter and gauge faces are now in a shade of navy blue instead of the previous black, and a digital LCD odometer/trip meter replaces the analogue counter.

Did you know?

The design brief for the new MX-5 from program manager Takao Kijima was an open book, keeping in mind the car would remain a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, open-bodied two-seater sports car
