RENAULT Australia is getting serious about light commercials. It has long reigned as number one in Europe, and the brand sees this market as a key area in its continued growth.
Having recently introduced updated versions of the smaller Kangoo and Trafic, the brand has now launched the big daddy of its LCV line-up – the Master.
According to the French marque, the Master’s key competitors are fellow European-badged vans such as the Volkswagen Crafter and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, a well as the venerable Ford Transit.
The question is, can it match up?

Master
Released: August 2004
Ended: January 2012
Family Tree: MasterTHE second-generation Renault Master made its local debut in August 2004 - two years after the brand resurfaced Down Under.
It was available at launch in three body lengths (SWB, MWB and LWB), two roof heights and a cab chassis form ideal as a base for campervans.
Power came from a 2.5-litre common-rail turbo-deisel with 88kW and 300Nm of torque, matched to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed Quickshift robotised manual.
Despite it raging success on the European mainland, the Master was consistantly beaten by its rivals in the Australian sales charts.
