FoMoCo symbolises its commitment to small cars with the debut of the Verve sedan21 Jan 2008 By TERRY MARTIN MAKING a point that vehicles other than large SUVs and pick-up trucks have a place on its North American stage, Ford unveiled a four-door version of its Verve concept car – the latest pointer to its next-generation Fiesta light-car – at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last week. Following on from the three-door Verve shown in Frankfurt last September, which was also on show in Motown, the all-new Fiesta will share some of its platform architecture with the Mazda2 and, for Australian markets, will be built in Thailand. It is expected to enter right-hand drive production in 2009. Ford said the four-door will provide the basis for the North American production version, while the “European” three-door was being shown to test market reaction to the derivative.
