Future models - Geely - EX2Geely EX2 confirmed for OzPossible sub-$20,000 battery electric vehicle coming from Geely in second half of next year16 Dec 2025 NEXT year might mark the first appearance of a sub-$20,000 battery electric vehicle (BEV) Down Under in Geely’s EX2 that was launched globally last month.
Though no pricing or spec details have been announced, based on right-hand drive variants already available in Thailand, the BEV city car may dip under the $20K barrier.
The Chinese manufacturer already has a track record for sharply priced cars in its first two models available here – the EX5 BEV and similar Starray EM-i PHEV medium size SUVs priced from as low as $37,490 excluding on-road costs.
Built upon the same Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA) platform as the aforementioned SUVs, the smaller-size EX2’s arrival will provide Geely Auto Australia an entree into the compact city car segment tapping buyers as the brand’s entry model.
Geely aims to elevate urban commuting with the EX2 as it “combines a playful aesthetic with a tech-driven cabin and comfortable yet nimble drive”.
Despite its compact footprint (4135mm long by 1805mm wide by 1580mm high and on a 2650 mm wheelbase), the Geely EX2 is said to demonstrate exceptional use of interior space with over 30 “thoughtfully” placed storage compartments, including a ‘frunk’ under the bonnet.
Externally, the tiddler’s design incorporates a ‘smile face’ complemented by clean body lines and a selection of pastel exterior colour options.
Known as the Xingyuan (Star Wish in Chinese), the EX2 is the overall bestselling vehicle in that country for 2025 chalking up over 400,000 units in the 12 months since launching, including 50,000 units in September 2025 alone.
Mirroring the Geely EX5 line-up the Chinese domestic market model is available in two variants: Pro and Max.
Extrapolating Thai-spec’ EX2 to possible Aussie spec’ we find the models run a 40.2kWh CATL-supplied lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs that are larger than the China domestic market models.
It delivers a claimed (less stringent) NEDC range of 395km and offers fast charging at 70.0kW with 30-80 per cent top-up in a claimed 21 minutes. AC charging at 6.6kW is also on both variants.
Powertrain details on Thai-spec EX2 sees it motivated with the more powerful (compared with China domestic market) 85kW motor enabling a top speed of 135km/h.
Geely hasn’t held back inside the EX2 with one of the largest infotainment screens in its class, possibly lifted from the EX5, the 14.6-inch panel powered by Flyme.
More information on specification, range walk-up and pricing for the Geely EX2 will be announced in due course. ![]() Read more24th of September 2025 ![]() Geely plans ute, SUVs and hatch for AustraliaLocal Geely chief Lei Li outlines six-model product offensive stretching to 2027All future modelsMotor industry news |
