Updated Kia EV6 shown in Melbourne

Due here in Q2 the facelifted Kia EV6 adds connectivity, larger battery

15 Jan 2025

KIA has used its Australian Open Kia Charge Up activation to showcase the updated EV6 this week, the facelifted all-electric offering due in local showrooms from the second quarter of this year with additional connectivity features, refreshed visuals, and a larger capacity battery for extended range.

In keeping pace with its latest EV models, the 2025 Kia EV6 introduces what the Korean brand says are “subtle yet impactful updates that maintain its unmistakable identity while giving it a sportier edge”.

Visually, Kia’s signature Star Map lighting shapes the new headlights and DRLs, giving the EV6 a more high-tech look with wing-like graphics that help create a wider, more dynamic appearance.

The front bumper features sharper angles, complemented by bold bodylines on the bonnet which flow to the air intake, lending more contrast and depth.

From the rear, three-dimensional tail-lights also take after the Star Map design language, while the rear bumper adopts a wide, wing-type shape that visually ties the rear design to the front.

Additionally, the Kia EV6 offers new alloy wheel designs, available in 19-to 21-inch sizes depending on the trim level.

Kia notes the EV6’s dimensions have been “slightly adjusted for improved aesthetics and comfort”. The overall length has incrementally increased by 15mm, and the front overhang is longer by the same measure, creating what it says is a sportier stance.

Inside, the EV6’s horizontal design theme enhances the cabin’s wide, open feel. The driver-centric layout features a standard dual 12.3-inch display that integrates the instrument cluster and centre screen, offering an “immersive visual experience” says Kia.

Inspired by the EV9, the 2025 EV6 now features a new steering wheel design across the range and an updated centre console with a sleek new finish and the integration of Kia’s Fingerprint Recognition functionality on GT-Line and GT trims.

The upgraded EV6’s infotainment system now employs ccNc software bringing enhanced graphics and the introduction of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard across the range.

“The original EV6 was a game-changer for Kia in Australia upon its introduction in 2022,” said Kia Australia chief executive officer Damien Meredith.

“The new features and updated styling of the upgraded EV6 really takes the game forward yet again.”

Other important updates include Kia Connect, a connected car service which provides customer benefits in safety, security, convenience and connectivity. The addition of Over the Air (OTA) software updates further enhances customer convenience, as the wireless technology updates vehicle functions, ensuring it is always maintained with the latest software.

Australian EV6 customers are also set to benefit from a larger 84kWh high-voltage battery pack (up from 77.4kWh), and ride and handling improvements including stiffer rear sway bars and softer front springs on GT variants.

Kia Australia says it has retuned both suspension and steering for the GT variant, “taking advantage of the hardware changes”.

“The retune has resulted in all Drive Modes being improved in terms of ride and handling dynamics, with increased natural feel and grip levels,” says Kia.

“Essentially this also adds to improved rough road and driving limit confidence.

“Importantly, the retune of the MDPS map has also improved steering feedback with natural feel, improved cornering accuracy and effort build up.”

Further details on local specifications and pricing will be announced closer to launch.
