Mahindra will offer two variants of the XUV 3XO from launch – the AX5L and AX7L – each confirmed as offering Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities, dual 10.25-inch instrumentation and infotainment displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a ride and handling package the Indian importer says is tailored for Australian conditions.
With pricing unconfirmed but expected to start at close to $25,000, the model is understood to offer 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels (grade dependent), with 360-degree camera technology, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, Harman/Kardon premium audio also available, along with keyless entry and ignition.
However, local market information provided so far omits to mention if the newcomer will have DAB+ digital radio reception, a wireless charging pad, blind-spot monitoring or rear cross-traffic alert.
Autonomous emergency braking features as standard, alongside adaptive cruise control, high beam assistance, lane departure warning and lane keeping assistance, traffic sign recognition, six airbags, and both ISOFIX and top-tether child-seat anchorages.
Mid-$20K compact SUV include the Hyundai Venue (from $24,750 before on-road costs with an automatic transmission), remaining Mitsubishi ASX stock (from $26,740 + ORC as a manual), GWM Haval Jolion and MG ZS (both from $26,990 drive-away) and Chery Tiggo 4 (from $23,990 d/a).
Based upon the previous-generation SsangYong Tivoli, the Mahindra XUV 3XO features its own sheetmetal and powertrain, the latter a turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol producing 82kW at 5000rpm and 200Nm between 1500-3500rpm. Drive is to the front wheels via a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Operating on 95 RON premium unleaded, the combination is said to deliver a combined-cycle fuel consumption figure of 6.5 litres per 100km with CO2 emissions of 137 grams per kilometre. Fuel tank capacity is listed at 42 litres.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO measures 3990mm in length, 1821mm in width, 1647mm in height, and 2600mm in wheelbase. Ground clearance is listed at a generous 201mm.
Mahindra Australia backs the XUV 3XO with a seven-year/150,000km warranty with roadside assistance. Servicing intervals and pricing are yet to be advised.
