Mazda's new MX-5 remains under wraps, but it could look like this...22 Apr 2014 MAZDA used last week’s New York motor show to reveal the underpinnings of its eagerly-awaited next-generation 2015 MX-5 convertible, set for launch 26 years after its 1989 predecessor started a revolution in the affordable sportscar market. The lightweight rolling architecture revealed in the Big Apple showed the next iteration of the iconic model would feature 50:50 weight distribution and, thanks to modern construction techniques, lose significant weight and potentially come in at under 1000kg. It is also known that one, or perhaps two, small-capacity but high-compression four-cylinder engines from Mazda’s SkyActiv family will feature under the bonnet of the car, which incidentally can be expected to cost less than the current version that scrapes in below $50k before on-road costs. BUT, one thing Mazda did not reveal was the next-generation model’s styling. However, we’ve made an educated guess, based on what we have learned so far.
