Mercedes-Benz fast-tracks its piping-hot new E63 AMG sedan for Australia26 Jun 2009 MERCEDES-AMG fans rejoice: The German powerhaus has brought forward production of Australia’s version of its new-generation E63 AMG sedan, which is now expected to go on sale here three months earlier than forecast in November. The cracking new 6.2-litre V8-powered E63, which made its global public debut at the New York motor show in April, will now follow the redesigned E-class sedan and coupe on sale in Australia by just three months. The W212-series E-class sedan and its two-door stablemate, which emerged at the Geneva show in March and replaces the CLK coupe, will hit local Mercedes-Benz dealerships simultaneously in August. Mercedes-AMG has stated its has no current plan to produce an E63 AMG Coupe, so for now AMG enthusiasts will have to make do with the E63 four-door, which packs the same 386kW/630Nm as the S63, SL and CL63 AMGs. As previously reported, the new E63 bellows to 100km/h in a claimed 4.5 seconds, making it about as quick as the sell-out C63 AMG sedan and BMW’s direct rival, the V10-equipped M5 sedan. As with the rest of the 2010 E-class range, expect the new E63 sedan to undercut the (378kW) model it replaces. The current E63 AMG sedan is priced at $238,956.
