Cabriolet to join Mercedes-Benz G-Class range

MERCEDES-BENZ is set to add to its iconic G-Glass portfolio with the first-ever G-Class Cabriolet.

Following what the German marque says was “a hugely positive response to the first teaser details”, Mercedes‑Benz is sending prototypes on rigorous test drives on the road and its challenging Austrian test track.

The three-pointed-star brand says the G-Class Cabriolet reaffirms its “unwavering commitment to excellence and shaping the future of this off-road icon”, a model that has been part of the Mercedes-Benz line-up since 1979.

First test kilometres for the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Cabriolet will assist engineers in gaining comprehensive data the brand says will ensure that the open-top driving experience of the G‑Class Cabriolet is promising an unparalleled and unmistakable feeling.

At a later date, the G‑Class Cabriolet will also make its way to Sweden where it will be put through “demanding winter testing”. Facing icy temperatures and snowy landscapes, the newcomer’s robustness, driving dynamics, and reliability will be thoroughly proven.

While further details on the model are yet to be confirmed, Mercedes-Benz says it is working to match the driving experience of the Cabriolet with other models in the range, suggesting a multitude of powertrain offerings is likely.
