Future models - NissanNext-gen Nissan line-up revealed and teasedRefocused Nissan line-up revealed with a range of new PHEV, BEV and ICE options28 Mar 2025 EMBATTLED auto brand Nissan is redirecting its global focus, in a bid to shake itself off and regain the profitability it once enjoyed, rolling out a fresh range of electric, hybrid and ice vehicles across the next two years.
Nissan unveiled a range of models, among them a third-generation Leaf battery electric vehicle (BEV) that has grown in size to take the form of a family-focused crossover, which is confirmed to land in Australia within the next two years.
According to Nissan, the next-generation Leaf is based on a more advanced BEV architecture (shared with the Ariya medium SUV that will finally arrive Down Under this year) and is more aerodynamic, equating to “significant range improvements over the previous generation”.
Details surrounding the new Leaf are scant, but we know it will ride on 19-inch alloy wheels and will feature a panoramic sunroof. Nissan has suggested further details will be shared mid-year.
Nissan’s long-awaited (and long-delayed) Ariya – which GoAuto tested back in 2023 – will arrive within the 2025 Japanese Financial Year (ending on March 31, 2026), but local specifications and pricing are yet to be revealed.
The Australian branch of Nissan previously said the Ariya will hit local dealerships in the second half of 2025.
It is likely that Australia will receive both the front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants, offered with either 63kWh or 87kWh battery options and offering a range of up to 500km – still a competitive figure despite the model’s age.
Alongside the electric models on the way, Nissan will bring its new Y63-generation Patrol to Australia, alongside a new “one-ton pickup” that is likely to replace the D23 Navara and scheduled to land by early-2027.
Australia will be the first right-hand drive market to receive the new Y63 Patrol, which will be powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing a stout 317kW/700Nm – outdoing the dearly departed V8 Y62 Patrol that produced 298kW/560Nm.
What is known about the new Navara so far is that it is likely to be a twin-under-the-skin with Mitsubishi’s latest Triton, the car-maker outlining that the model is “leveraging Nissan’s partnership with Mitsubishi Motors”.
Based on the dimly lit rendering of the new ute issued by Nissan, the new Navara looks to share overall shape and front-end cues (particularly evident in the headlights) with the Mitsubishi Triton.
Nissan has also outlined plans to introduce a new Qashqai crossover, which will feature the brand’s third-generation series-hybrid E-Power technology, which uses a small petrol engine to supply energy to the traction battery and motors that drive the wheels.
A new retro-styled electric Micra model was also revealed, but at this time it is not planned for Australia.
“Over the next two years, we are excited to roll out an impressive lineup that will redefine the road,” said newly appointed Nissan Motor Corporation chief planning officer Ivan Espinosa.
“We are committed to investing in products that embody the very best of Nissan. To our passionate fans and loyal owners around the world, I can assure you, this is just the beginning of an exciting journey ahead.” ![]() Read more |
