The German importer says that as per other Sport Collection editions, the X1 “provides a compelling proposition for customers with an optimised level of equipment while retaining the marque’s renowned powertrains and driving dynamics at a revised price point”.
Headlining the build sheet of the BMW X1 Sport Collection is its M Sport package, which includes styling elements and details such as large cooling air inlets at the front and a striking diffuser at the rear to provide a commanding road presence.
It is the first time the M Sport package has been offered on an entry-level BMW X1, the bundle joining additional equipment such as bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels in a double spoke, bi-colour design, deletion of model variant badge, interior trim in M Aluminium Hexacube Pale, front seat heating, and electric front seat adjustment with driver’s side memory functionality.
Mechanically, the Sport Collection is unchanged from its donor variant featuring a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 115kW/230Nm. Drive is to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission resulting in a claimed 0-100km/h time of 9.0 seconds.
Fuel consumption is listed at 6.5 litres per 100km on the ADR Combined cycle average.
With order books now open, BMW Australia says initial customer deliveries are expected to commence in the third quarter of this year.
Competing within the Small SUV over $45K category locally, the BMW X1 is currently the second strongest seller in its class behind the Volkswagen T-Roc (with 1660 versus 1866 units year-to-date respectively).
The X1 likewise vies against premium players including the Audi Q2 (with YTD sales of 297 units), Cupra Formentor (580 units), Lexus LBX (817 units), Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class (987 units), and Volvo XC40 (763 units).
