New models - BYD - Sealion 5 - PHEVBYD prices Sealion 5 PHEV rangeNew benchmark set as BYD prices Sealion 5 plug-in hybrid from $33,99015 Dec 2025 By MATT BROGAN BYD has announced pricing for its Sealion 5 plug-in hybrid range, the model setting a new benchmark as the most affordable PHEV in the Australian market.
Priced from $33,990 plus on-road costs, the BYD Sealion 5 focuses not only on offering customer value, but also emissions reduction, low running costs, and all-round practicality, making it a “compelling” option for government, corporate, and private fleets, says BYD.
The Sealion 5 will be offered in two trim grades – Essential and Premium – each powered by the Chinese importer’s DM-i Super Hybrid System.
BYD says the powertrain is capable of delivering sub-2.0-litre per 100km combined cycle fuel efficiency on a fully charged battery and that the model may be driven up to 100km (NEDC) on electric power alone.
As elsewhere in the BYD portfolio, the DM-i Super Hybrid System combines a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor, outputting 156kW of total system power.
The Essential grade utilises a 12.9kWh battery pack to offer a combined driving range of up to 1000km while the Premium’s 18.3kWh battery can extend that figure to 1030km.
Inside, the Sealion 5 offers equipment highlights that include a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen (12.8-inches on Premium), an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Digital Key access via smartphone, and 360-degree camera technology (Premium grade only).
Cargo space is listed at 463 litres with the rear seats in place expanding to 1410 litres all told.
BYD says that despite the sharp price point of the Sealion 5 range, there is no compromise on innovation or safety, with a full list of driver assistance and safety technologies expected to be advised closer to the model’s showroom debut in early 2026.
