New models - Cupra - Leon - VZeCupra’s wild PHEV wagon goes ExtremeLeon Sportstourer gets ‘Extreme Package’ to up athleticism ante on Cupra PHEV wagon17 Feb 2026 CUPRA has taken its Leon VZe Sportstourer plug-in hybrid wagon and put it on a course of steroids, based on customer demand, by introducing the Extreme Package – previously only available for the potent Leon VZx hatch – now available for an extra $7600.
Although a decent chunk of change, the built-to-order upgrade bundle adds far more than a sticker pack to the low-slung wagon, with a host of upgrades that span dynamics and design to edge the model closer to more exotic (and expensive) fast PHEV estates.
For the money, customers will score four-piston Brembo brakes up front, CUP bucket seats, LED matrix adaptive headlights, dark gloss interior accents and aerodynamic upgrades including side skirts and a larger rear spoiler.
With a price tag of $69,990 plus on-road costs, the VZe Sportstourer offers comparative power to the Volkswagen Golf R wagon that was axed in 2023 but with the Extreme Package, it now scores some of the additional goodies to bridge the performance gap.
Being a performance-oriented plug-in hybrid station wagon, the Leon VZe Sportstourer is in rare company, with only the Audi A5 Avant E-Hybrid Quattro ($92,900 + ORC) and BMW M5 Touring ($263,900 + ORC) offering similar ingredients on the Australian market.
The Cupra’s hybrid system offers plenty of performance, with a combined 200kW/400Nm on tap from its 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder engine and electric motor.
A 25.8kWh lithium-ion battery also offers an impressive WLTP-rated electric-only driving range of 121km.
In the official Extreme Package announcement, Cupra also suggested the Leon Hatch PHEV may soon join the range.
"As a challenger brand, Cupra is built on listening to our tribe," said Cupra Australia brand director Jerome Figuiere.
"Customers and media told us they wanted the most extreme version of the VZe Sportstourer, so we made it happen.
“This package proves that our PHEVs can be just as sporty, emotional and engaging as their ICE counterparts."
