New models - Hyundai - Ioniq 6Hyundai Kona, Ioniq 6 retail offers availableDiscounts of up to $20,000 on electric-powered Hyundai Kona and Ioniq 6 models17 Jan 2025 By MATT BROGAN HYUNDAI Kona and Ioniq 6 models have joined the long list of slower-selling electric cars now available with significant pricing discounts.
From now until the end of March, remaining stock of Kona Electric (230 units available nationally) and Ioniq 6 (371 units available nationally) will be offered with what Hyundai Motor Company Australia describes as a “deposit contribution” – a generous offer of up to $20,000 towards the deposit of the vehicle.
Available on in-stock and demonstrator Ioniq 6 models, the retail offer contributes $15,000 toward the price of Dynamic and Techniq variants, and $20,000 toward that of the flagship Epiq.
Further, the offer includes the customer’s choice of a 22kW Autel MaxiCharger home charger, valued at $1500, or an Evie charging voucher of the same value.
For Kona Electric models, a $5000 deposit contribution is available across all grades, and applied to vehicles with a production date before the 30th of July, 2024.
As per the Ioniq 6 offer, the Kona Electric is likewise available with the customer’s choice of a home charger or public charging voucher to the value of $1500.
It is the second time in three months Hyundai has offered significant discounting on its Ioniq 6 range, a Black Friday offer in November shaving $12,000 from the vehicle’s list price in a bid to clear an estimated nine months’ worth of vehicle stock.
At the time, HMCA product planning manager Chris Saltapidas said the Korean importer was happy with the progress of its Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2 and now BYD Seal rival, saying the vehicle’s unique position in the market is one aimed at “testing the waters” locally.
“Considering where the market is, especially in relation to sedans, I think the Ioniq 6 has met expectations,” he explained.
“Of course, any product can do better, but I think what we were trying to achieve with that car – getting as much range as possible from an electric vehicle – was part of its USP (unique selling point).
“I think the Ioniq 6 has a pretty bright future here. We will always have it available at a local level – we’ll always put our hand up for every product that is available globally, as long as it suits our market.”
VFACTS figures for 2024 show the Ioniq 6 achieved sales of just 374 units, well behind rivals like the Tesla Model 3 (10,600) and BMW i4 (2062), but ahead of the Polestar 2 (264).
While Kona sales are not split by motive drive type, we find Hyundai’s Small segment SUV with calendar year sales of 17,374 units (in 2024), placing it second place within its class. It is outsold only by the MG ZS with 22,629 unit sales.
