IM prices IM5 and IM6 for Australia

MG Motor’s premium IM brand ups the ante with new IM5 sedan and IM6 SUV models

12 Jun 2025

MG MOTOR’S premium IM (Intelligence in Motion) brand has kicked off with driveaway pricing announced for the fully electric Medium segment IM5 sedan and IM6 SUV in three grades: Premium, Platinum and Performance across both body styles.

Deliveries commence this September (in dealerships next month for test drives) and are available now for “reservation” at MG Motor’s online portal priced from $60,990 driveaway for the 75kWh RWD, IM 5 and 6 Premium models.

Others in the line-up in both body styles include RWD Platinum with a 100kWh battery from $69,990 d/a and AWD Performance with a 100kWh battery from $80,990 d/a. Each grade has specific power and torque outputs reflected in range, recharge time and acceleration times.

Unusually, IM lists sedan and SUVs, essentially the same vehicle with different top hats, at the same price point for each grade, possibly unprecedented Down Under.

According to an MG/IM spokesman competitors for the IM5 may include:Tesla Model 3, Kia EV6, Mercedes Benz EQE, Hyundai IONIQ 6, BMW i4 and BYD Seal while the IM6 may have to contend with:Tesla Model Y, KIA EV6, VW ID.4, Mercedes Benz EQE SUV, Hyundai IONIQ 5, BMW iX3, Audi Q4 E-TRON, Deepal S07, Toyota BZ4x, BMW iX, Audi Q6 E-TRON and BYD Sealion 7.

MG’s badge will be fixed to the tailgates of all IM variant’s in addition to IM badging front and rear, the vehicles to be sold through MG dealerships alongside MG branded cars.

MG Motor says the new “premium” vehicles are jointly developed with some of the world’s leading technology companies including SAIC Motor, the parent company of MG, and Chinese powerhouse Alibaba Group.

The brand will be promoted here using the rather contrived slogan “IM Presented by MG Motor”.

It has plenty to entice BEV buyers looking for a step up on current BEV technology particularly in the areas of range and recharge speed with the base 75kWh RWD models capable of a 20-minute recharge from 30-80 per cent with a high output device and a claimed 755km (WLTP) range.

MG Motor says the 100kWh battery equipped models are capable of a 30-80 per cent recharge in a claimed 15 minutes with a high output device and a 670km (WLTP) range claim.

The 400/800-volt powertrain story isn’t simple as the base Premium RWD IM5 and IM6 75kWh feature a 217kW/450Nm single motor for a claimed 0-100km/h time of around 6.4 seconds (slightly quicker for the sedan), while Platinum RWD IM5 and IM6 (single motor) 100kWh models up that to 300kW/500Nm to stop the clock at 4.6 sec and 5.4 sec respectively.

Moving on up and with a second electric motor on the front axle pumping out 200kW/302Nm, as well as an increase in power to the rear axle to 372kW, the potent Performance AWD IM5 and IM6 100kWh reduce the 0-100km/h sprint to a claimed circa 3.0 sec and 3.5 seconds respectively.

Billed as “super-intelligent”, both the IM5 and IM6 are equipped with bi-directional rear-wheel turning technology (four-wheel steering) that offers up to 12 degrees of rear-wheel articulation. MG Motor says it’s an industry-leading feature that dramatically reduces the turning circle and transforms the driving experience, making it comparable to that of a compact hatchback.

“The enhanced manoeuvrability allows for effortless parking and precise navigation through tight urban environments,” it explained.

“At higher speeds, the rear wheels turn in harmony with the front, improving stability, cornering performance, and overall handling. This stability enabled the IM5 to break the Moose Test record at a speed of 91km/h – topping the record previously held for the past 25 years.”

Inside the new models we find a sharp definition 10.5-inch central touchscreen, an immersive 26.3-inch infotainment display and a large panoramic sunroof. The interior for both sedan and SUV models is equipped with luxury seat finishes, smart device magnets and 20 speakers.

Rear passengers are said to be able to enjoy vast legroom thanks to the 2950mm wheelbase on both models.

Both sedan and SUV feature AI technology that “elevates the driving performance” through functions such as Rainy Night Mode and One Touch AI Chauffer that utilise the car’s 360-degree cameras to either assist or perform tasks on the driver’s behalf.

The IM range’s compatibility with the MG iSmart mobile application also means owners can control key functions remotely, including monitoring, charging and checking vehicle location and route planning – all from their smartphone.

The IM5 and IM6 are both backed by seven-year all-inclusive warranty when serviced within the IM dealer network.

“We are now pleased to introduce IM Presented by MG Motor to the Australian market, following its successful preview at the Melbourne Motor show in April,” said MG Motor Australia chief executive officer Peter Ciao.

“The IM5 and IM6 will deliver the most innovative, AI inspired, cutting-edge features, and high performance, blended seamlessly with premium design and interior finishes.

“We welcome prospective owners to place their reservation for the next generation of electric mobility from today.”
