New models - Mercedes-Benz - GLA - 250 HybridMercedes-Benz GLA 250 e PHEV arrivesWhat's in a name: Mercedes-Benz calls its new compact PHEV the GLA 250 e with EQ hybrid technology. Small Benz SUV now available as a plug-in hybrid from $78K excluding on-road costs17 Jul 2025 MERCEDES-BENZ Australia has plugged a gap in its electrified line-up by introducing a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of its GLA small premium SUV claimed to offer up to 65km (WLTP) electric only range and priced from $78,000 excluding on-road costs.
Plug-in competitors are few at the money save for the Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV from $78,500 excluding on-road costs – although quite a few fully electric BEVs are offered in the segment.
MBA says the ‘GLA 250 e with EQ hybrid technology’ is a “sustainable, refined and feature-rich option in the compact luxury SUV segment with everyday practicality, electric range and seamless hybrid flexibility”.
“The model is designed for drivers seeking the best of both worlds the new variant complementing the existing GLA range and expands Benz’s electrified portfolio alongside recently introduced plug-in hybrid models like the C 350 e.
Power comes from a “sophisticated” hybrid drivetrain cranking up to 160kW and 450Nm of system output with handy all-electric commuting capabilities thanks to its 11.5kWh lithium-ion battery, while retaining the flexibility of a 120kW 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine for longer journeys.
This engine is combined with an electric traction motor integrated into the eight-speed dual clutch automatic transmission sending drive to the front wheels.
Drivers are kept informed on hybrid-specific data via a power display in the instrument cluster as well as the energy flow display and consumption histogram on the central display.
The model is equipped with two charging cables as standard, one for home use and another for wall box style appliances or public charging infrastructure with the standard 3.7kW AC charging system optionally upgradable to support up to 11kW for faster top-ups at compatible stations.
The GLA 250 e is well equipped as standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera system, heated front seats, Artico imitation leather upholstery, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control with rear centre vents, wireless charging pad, metallic paintwork and heat-insulating dark-tinted glass.
Also standard are adaptive control, lane-keep assist, semi-automated parking and blind-spot monitoring with exit warning function.
Several personalisation packages are available, including the Plus Package ($3748) bundling Burmester premium audio, head-up display, LED headlights, augmented reality navigation, illuminated door sills and additional driver assist technologies.
It is available only in conjunction with AMG Line Package ($2500) that adds sports seats, AMG floor mats, a sports steering wheel in Nappa leather, sports brake system, galvanised gearshift paddles and lowered comfort suspension.
Upgraded AC Charging ($800) boosts charging speeds up to 11kW (with three-phase power). ![]() Read more9th of July 2025 ![]() Mercedes-Benz announces Special Edition packagesCompact model range to benefit from Special Edition treatment, orders now openAll new models![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() GLA pricing
