New models - MG - HS - super hybridMG prices HS Super Hybrid for OzMG announces pricing, preliminary specification of HS Super Hybrid ahead of Q3 launch30 May 2025 By MATT BROGAN
MG MOTOR Australia has announced pricing and preliminary specification details of its all-new HS Super Hybrid (plug-in hybrid) range ahead of the model’s September launch.
The model range will be available from $52,990 drive-away in entry-grade Excite format and $55,990 d/a for the flagship Essence grade. The pricing represents as much as a $3300 increase over the entry price to the outgoing range.
According to the Chinese importer, the HS Super Hybrid has been designed specifically for the Australian market, combining a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, electric motor, and 24.7kWh battery to deliver what it says is “smooth and quiet motoring”.
Combined system output is listed at 220kW/350Nm.
As is the case with most plug-in hybrid systems, MG’s Super Hybrid arrangement will allow electric-only motivation at lower speed driving with the combustion engine delivering additional power when at highway speeds.
When the battery is in a low state of charge, the system ensures the drivetrain continues to operate as a hybrid model to deliver fuel efficient motoring, again reflecting the operation of similar plug-in hybrid arrangements.
MG Motor Australia says the HS Super Hybrid can achieve a fuel efficiency figure of 5.0 litres per 100km without charging, challenging the best in the segment for real-world economy. The model’s all-electric driving range is listed at 135km (MEDC), contributing to a combined system range of 1000km.
“I am incredibly proud to introduce MG Super Hybrid to Australia,” said MG Motor Australia chief executive officer Peter Ciao.
“Since I came up with this idea, our engineering team has worked tirelessly to deliver this leading product. It is designed for Australian motorists; with the conditions we drive in Australia in mind.
“Our team has already achieved driving from Sydney to Melbourne on one tank and one charge.
“The MG Super Hybrid will deliver the best of both worlds, smooth electric driving combined with extended range of petrol-powered flexibility.
“Australian motorists are very conscious of fuel economy. MG’s Super Hybrid technology will provide an option that delivers very efficient fuel economy for all driving conditions.
Mr Ciao said the HS Super Hybrid will offer an even more spacious cabin than the previous generation range, featuring more premium materials and a thoughtful design throughout. Final specifications will be confirmed closer to the model’s September launch.
As is the case with other MG models, the HS Super Hybrid will be backed by a 10-year warranty.
