New models - Volkswagen - CaddyCommercial vehicle line-up overhaul at VW AusVW reveals specs and pricing for MY25 Caddy and Crafter – plus T7 Transporter details14 Apr 2025 By COBEY BARTELS and NATHAN PONCHARD VOLKSWAGEN Group Australia (VGA) has revealed local pricing and specifications for its updated MY25 Caddy and Crafter models, while confirming that the all-new T7 Transporter range will launch in Australia in August comprising five bodystyles and three powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid and an electric van.
Also confirmed is an e-Hybrid 4Motion plug-in version of the just-launched, new-generation VW Multivan people mover will also go on sale before the end of 2025.
Built in Turkey, the new-generation T7 Transporter shares its platform and powertrains with Ford’s Transit Custom – in a continuation of the Ford/Volkswagen architecture joint-venture that underpins the current Ranger and Amarok – and will debut here as a regular van, in short- (3100mm) or long-wheelbase (3500mm) forms, with two or three seats, two roof heights, and one-tonne payload capacity.
Within 12 months from launch, the Australian T7 Transporter line-up will also include a long-wheelbase, dual-cab-chassis variant with six seats (Q1 2026), and a short- or long-wheelbase Crewvan with five seats (Q3 2026).
Powertrains will consist of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with 125kW/390Nm outputs and an eight-speed automatic transmission, driving either the front or all four wheels. VGA says the payload of this Transporter is 1326kg.
Shortly after launch, the T7 Transporter TDI will be followed by the e-Transporter – an all-electric offering in short- or long-wheelbase variants with a 64kWh battery, 210kW/415Nm outputs, rear-wheel drive and a 1038kg payload.
Then, in the third quarter of 2026, a front-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid Transporter will launch with the same bodystyle options but with a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, an electric motor, a 16.5kWh battery and outputs of 169kW/525Nm. The Transporter PHEV will have a payload of 1140kg.
VGA also plans to introduce a Caravelle people mover version of the T7 Transporter (towards the end of 2025), offering greater interior space than the smaller seven-seat Multivan, as well as configurations with up to nine seats.
As for the updated MY25 Caddy, VGA says it will no longer by impacted by the “pretty significant supply shortages over the past few years” that affected the previous model. The MY25 range now starts at $41,225 before on-road costs (up $235) and features a wealth of technology improvements over the current model such as Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit Pro, intelligent speed-limit assist, and a larger 10-inch infotainment screen.
Other equipment now standard on all variants includes front and rear parking sensors, power-folding and heated door mirrors, tyre-pressure monitoring, central locking with keyless start, and USB-C charging ports.
Stepping up into the Maxi and California grades, the MY25 variants score parking assist, adaptive cruise control, lane-change assist with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and an upgraded autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system with pedestrian and cyclist detection.
The MY25 Caddy is powered by a choice of three engine options that include the TDI280 75kW turbo-diesel, TDI320 90kW turbo-diesel or a TSI220 85kW turbo-petrol engine, mated to either a six-speed manual (excluding the 90kW diesel) or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Volkswagen’s Caddy range remains comprehensive with various body styles, wheelbases and powertrains on offer, from the short-wheelbase Cargo to the long-wheelbase Cargo Maxi, Crewvan Maxi, Life Maxi people-mover, and the Caddy California camper at the top of the range, starting at $62,225 (before on-road costs).
Stepping up considerably in size, but with a similar focus on improving driver comfort and driver assistance systems, the MY25 Crafter has been substantially upgraded in terms of active-safety with standard forward collision warning now accompanied by AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control with travel assist.
Externally, MY25 Crafter gets a redesigned front bumper with fresh badging across both medium- and long-wheelbase variants, modernising its appearance to look more like its stablemates.
Inside, Crafter’s dashboard has been extensively redesigned to accommodate a new 10.4-inch infotainment screen, alongside a new Digital Cockpit, an electric parking brake, wireless phone charging and new USB-C ports.
Powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine as before, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, MY25 Crafter is priced from $69,100 (before on-road costs) in front-wheel-drive single cab-chassis form with a GVM of 3.55 tonnes, or $75,600 (before on-road costs) for the rear-wheel-drive 5.5 tonne version.
