Volkswagen rounds out its ID.4 and ID.5 line-up

Additional single- and dual-motor variants added to Volkswagen’s ID.4 and ID.5 EV ranges

8 May 2025

VOLKSWAGEN has fleshed out its existing ID.4 and ID.5 electric vehicle line-up adding the ID.4 GTX and the ID.5 Pro variants to the local range.

The performance-oriented GTX runs a dual-motor AWD powertrain while the more affordable Pro runs a single-motor RWD powertrain.

Pricing is from $69,990 for the ID.4 GTX and from $62,990 for the ID.5 Pro, both excluding on-road costs.

The ID.4 and ID.5 line-ups face stiff competition in its segment from the likes of Tesla Model Y (from $58,900 + ORC), Polestar 4 (from $78,500 + ORC), Hyundai Ioniq 5 (from $69,800 + ORC), Kia EV5 (from $56,770 + ORC) and Toyota’s bZ4X (from $66,000 + ORC) among others including cheaper Chinese offerings.

But Volkswagen is confident of the new ID’s capabilities saying “the ID.4 GTX brings the sharp handling and performance credentials of the ID.5 GTX coupe SUV to the traditional ID.4 SUV body style, while the ID. 5 Pro offers a compelling entry price point into Volkswagen’s EV design leader.”

The GTX variant has a robust 250kW of power, the model also features 4Motion all-wheel drive and a 0-100km/h time in a quickish 5.4 seconds.

The Pro variant’s single motor is good for 210kW which will see it reach 100km/h in 6.7 seconds.

Volkswagen Group Australia (VGA) says it is “continuing its focus on offering elevated, attainable value – whether choosing internal combustion engine (ICE) or battery electric vehicle (BEV)”.

“The ID.4 GTX complements Volkswagen’s all-new Tiguan medium SUV, specifically the 195kW, 5.9sec 0-100km/h Tiguan 195TSI R-Line that sells from $70,490 excluding on-roads,” added the German importer.

The faster ID.4 GTX gains more assertive GTX front and rear bumper designs, body-coloured body side, additional black styling elements, 20-inch ‘Ystad’ alloy wheels, and front fog lights.

Inside it scores “unique” GTX-embossed sports seats with integrated head restraints adorned with red highlights and stitching, a GTX branded steering wheel and a harman/kardon premium audio system with 12-channel amplifier and subwoofer.

The value proposition ID. 5 Pro mimics the ID.4 Pro spec-wise bringing a high level of standard equipment that includes IQ.Light Matrix LED headlights with adaptive high beam, 3D LED rear lights with dynamic indicators, keyless access, power tailgate, panoramic roof with electric blind, ArtVelours microfleece upholstery, power adjustable front seats with memory and a newly-updated massage function.

Said front seats are heated as is the steering wheel, backed by tri-zone climate control, 12.9-inch infotainment with App-Connect for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and area view 360-degree camera.

An extensive array of ADAS is fitted which VGA claims is “secure and unobtrusive” with newly added Rear Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Warning.

VGA says the rear-wheel-drive ID.5 Pro has a (WLTP) range of 543km on a single charge while the AWD ID.4 GTX will go a claimed 511km (WLTP) on a single charge.

All four variants of the ID4 and 5 are offered with both “Mode 2” and “Mode 3” charging cables as standard which VGA says are “all the cables required to charge your car in any situation and adding almost $1000 in additional value”.

“As the only brand that has consistently made performance SUVs available to customers across the Tiguan line-up for well over a decade, the ID. 4 GTX continues that tradition by combining the SUV form of the ID. 4 Pro with the performance credentials of the ID. 5 GTX,” said Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles head of product Arjun Nidigallu.

“Similarly, the ID.5 Pro allows us to offer everything that’s garnered praise for the strong value, generously equipped ID.4 Pro in a sleeker, sportier-looking package, while retaining core BEV attainability for customers.”

The entire ID.4 and ID.5 range feature VGA’s On EV initiative which includes eight-year/160,000km battery warranty, free battery health checks, simplified charging solutions (including benefits of Volkswagen’s partnership with Ampol AmpCharge), and a Guaranteed Future Value through Volkswagen Financial Services.
