New models - Volvo - EX30 - cross countryEX30 Cross Country takes Volvo off beaten trackVolvo continues Cross Country lineage with $70K rugged AWD version of EX30 small SUV5 Sep 2025 A RUGGEDISED Cross Country version of Volvo’s small battery electric EX30 SUV has been announced to cater for so-called “lifestyle” buyers seeking a (slightly) more off-road-focused vehicle.
The China-built five-seater uses the same Geely Auto SEA architecture as Zeekr’s X model, both Volvo and Zeekr sister brands in the Chinese manufacturer’s stable.
Now available to order from $69,990 excluding on-road costs, the all-wheel drive newcomer sits above the EX30 Plus from $59,990 + ORC and between the EX30 Ultra at $66,290 + ORC and the EX30 Ultra Performance from $71,290 + ORC.
It has few if any dirt road fortified, fully electric competitors in the small SUV segment although may potentially be cross-shopped with electric Mini Countryman variants and some other electrified models.
Volvo has offered rough road or all-road Cross Country branded vehicles harking back years through various models including the V60, V90, V70 (XC70) and V40.
As in the past, the EX30 Cross Country is built for owners with a penchant for nature and the great outdoors, therefore wanting a vehicle to get them further access “off the beaten track” than a standard model.
From the outset decades ago and flowing into the new model, key Cross Country features have encompassed an increased ride height for traversing unpaved roads and rough terrain, all-wheel drive to improve traction and grip in various conditions, Off-Road mode designed to optimise traction and performance on challenging surfaces and hill descent control to help maintain a controlled descent on steep inclines.
These features are highlighted by rugged styling that give Cross Country models a more robust and adventurous appearance.
Volvo say the small SUV is perfect for the city as well as the great outdoors thanks to a range of up to 427km and can be charged from 10-80 per cent in as little as 26 minutes.
Its dual motor electric drivetrain develops 315kW and 543Nm.
The vehicle’s all-wheel drive combines with recalibrated (softer) suspension making it more than capable of handling the tough and slippery conditions that are part and parcel of life outside the city.
Optional 18-inch alloy wheels with an “all-terrain accessory tyre” are designed to make country driving easier as well has toughening up the vehicle’s overall looks.
The front shield of the EX30 Cross Country car and the boot lid are in a special dark colour with the front featuring a ‘unique’ piece of artwork showing the topography of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden – an inspiration for many of Volvo’s designers.
Chunky front and rear skid plates as well as wheel arch extensions complete the more rugged look.
Inside has a practical focus and contains clever technology, storage and design that made the original EX30 distinctive, for example, the doors contain large storage compartments facilitated by moving the speakers incorporating them into the sound-bar on the dashboard.
The model also has a versatile central storage tunnel between driver and passenger that can be slid out as a cup holder or back for more storage.
Another big storage compartment resides on the floor between driver and passenger while the glove compartment has been placed beneath the centre console, providing easy access for both driver and passenger.
Those in the second row have a neat storage box that slides out from beneath the central tunnel. This box is also removable and washable doubling as a waste bin.
In tech terms the EX30 Cross Country scores Google built-in providing a variety of Google products as standard including Google Maps and to make sure owners can enter a warm car, the Volvo EX30 app allows the car to be “preconditioned” from a remote location.
Volvo has applied its usual high safety standards to the EX30 Cross Country across the latest primary and secondary, active and passive safety and ADAS technologies such as parking assistance, adaptive cruise control with steer support and blind-spot monitoring.
Standard kit includes power adjustable driver and passenger seats, tinted rear windows, fixed panoramic sunroof, heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless Apple CarPlay, digital key, 360° camera, Harman Kardon premium sound and a wireless phone charger.
Upon announcing the EX30 Cross Country’s arrival Down Under Volvo Car Australia MD Stephen Connor said: “We launched our first Cross Country car over 25 years ago, and this concept of durable and all- weather cars is core to the Volvo brand.”\
“In the country of our origin the winters are harsh, and the summer is savoured whereas we in Australia get to enjoy the great outdoors all year round by getting out and exploring our amazing nature and that is where the EX30 Cross Country delivers a fully rounded experience. It is not simply a car – it is the Volvo EX30 Cross Country.”
Volvo has taken the formula further with the EX30 Cross Country launching an “experience package” in conjunction with the new model that gives customers access to accessories, gear and information to “fully explore the great outdoors”.
It is available in a range of five colours: Cloud Blue, Crystal White, Onyx Black, Sand Dune and Vapour Grey. ![]() Read more29th of August 2025 ![]() Volvo prices ES90 for AustraliaUnique in segment Volvo ES90 electric crossover priced from $88,880 + ORC23rd of June 2025 ![]() Volvo updates popular XC60 SUV rangeImproved tech, comfort, and design for refreshed Volvo XC60 line-up, prices up by $1000All new models![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Motor industry news |
