News - GeelyGeely hits 10,000 sales Down UnderChinese brand Geely’s sales momentum accelerates to milestone in 14 months27 May 2026 GEELY Auto has delivered its 10,000th vehicle in Australia 14 months after launching locally, underlining the extraordinary pace at which Chinese challenger brands are reshaping the new-car market Down Under.
The milestone coincided with the opening of Geely Sutherland in Sydney, the latest addition to the brand’s rapidly expanding national retail footprint, which now exceeds 60 outlets.
The achievement highlights Geely’s sales acceleration exemplified in reaching 5000 deliveries in its first nine months, followed by doubling that tally in the next five months, a trajectory Geely says few new entrants in Australia have matched.
Geely Auto Australia managing director Alex Gu said the milestone reflected growing confidence in the brand.
“Reaching 10,000 deliveries in just 14 months is a significant milestone for Geely in Australia,” he said.
“It is a testament to the hard work of the entire Geely Auto team, providing the local consumer with high-quality new energy vehicles that propel mobility in an accessible, value-driven way.”
Geely’s growth has been driven by Australia’s rapidly expanding appetite for electrified vehicles aided by a spike in demand following conflict in the Middle East.
The company says its EX5 electric SUV ranked as Australia’s second best-selling battery-electric vehicle in April, while the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid placed third in the PHEV segment.
That performance suggests Geely is quickly establishing itself as more than just another “low-cost” Chinese newcomer.
Instead, it appears to be gaining traction as a mainstream alternative through aggressive pricing, heavy specification, and broad electrification across BEVs and PHEVs.
Geely says the latest Starray EM-i Inspire Extended Range has “only strengthened that positioning, recently arriving with a 29.8kWh battery, 136km EV-only WLTP range, 996km total combined range, 1.5L/100km fuel consumption and a $41,490 + ORC price”.
Geely used the milestone to spotlight its10,000th customer – Sydney buyer Elizabeth Cayless, whose family selected an EX5 Inspire after comparing multiple family SUVs.
Her comments align with the value-focused pitch increasingly resonating with Australian buyers.
“There are so many choices for families in Australia today, but Geely gave us everything we were looking for in one vehicle,” she said.
“The interior quality exceeded expectations, and the technology felt far ahead of many vehicles we had looked at.”
The sales milestone also highlights how quickly Geely has scaled its retail presence.
The new Sutherland dealership expands a network that now exceeds 60 sales and service points nationally, giving the brand broad metropolitan and regional coverage far earlier than many competitors achieved.
That infrastructure remains critical for convincing mainstream buyers wary of newer entrants.
Geely is using the momentum to drive further growth through aggressive end-of-financial-year offers, including 0.88 per cent comparison rate finance, 36-month term, no minimum deposit, no establishment fee, no repayment fees, and a complimentary 7kW single-phase home EV charger (excluding installation).
Looked at holistically, the 10,000-sales milestone matters beyond Geely itself.
It reinforces the speed at which Chinese brands are moving from fringe players to serious volume contenders in Australia.
Where legacy brands often required years to establish momentum, Chinese entrants increasingly arrive with vertically integrated supply chains, sharp pricing, fast product cadence and strong EV credentials. ![]() Read more |
