Market Insight: Mini celebrates Aus sales record

Record first-quarter sales see Mini sales tower 91pc over the same time last year

14 Apr 2025

MINI Australia has reported its best-ever sales performance in the first quarter of 2025, the German-British importer noting records across multiple categories, including its highest-ever March sales, and most successful quarter on record.

According to VFACTS sales data, Mini sales surged by 91 per cent in March when compared with the same month last year, with 611 vehicles delivered to customers.

March was the third consecutive record month for the brand following similarly strong sales in January and February.

Overall, Mini Australia’s quarter one achievement totals 1394 new vehicle deliveries, representing a 69 per cent increase over the same period in 2024 – and a 65 per cent uplift when compared against the 10-year first quarter average.

The importer has also notched its highest-yet start of the year for battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales, underlining what it says is its growing momentum in the shift towards sustainable mobility.

Across the first quarter, sales of electric Mini models accounted for 42 per cent (or 585 units) of the outright figure.

Elsewhere, Mini Cooper three- and five-door hatch models led the sales charge with 634 units registered in Q1. It was followed by the Countryman with 553 unit sales, the all-electric Aceman with 173 units, and the Mini Convertible, which launched just last month, with 34 unit sales.

Mini Australia general manager Alex Brockhoff said the result highlights the brand’s strong market presence in the Australian new car market.

“We are incredibly proud of these exceptional results, which reflect both the increasing popularity of Mini and the growing consumer demand for our brand,” he said.

“Our record-breaking performance in Q1 2025 demonstrates the strength of our new product family and our commitment to delivering premium driving experiences, while contributing to a more sustainable future.”

While sales across the COVID-19 period averaged 803 units per quarter, Mini Australia’s post-pandemic performance – aided in no small part by the arrival of several updated and all-new model lines – has seen that figure grow to an average of 1056 sales per quarter in 2023 and 996 sales per quarter in 2024.

Mini’s latest quarterly record (1394 units) represents a substantial step forward for the brand's sales growth, with projected full-year sales likely to top its 2023 best of 4289 units.

The impending arrival of Mini’s new-generation JCW performance range is expected to drive the brand’s sales trajectory even higher.

Sporty Mini variants have a strong sales history in Australia, the expanded inbound range anticipated to break new records when it lands in local dealerships in the second quarter of 2025.

“We are looking forward to the launch of the JCW model range in Q2 which is the final piece of the puzzle to complete our new Mini family,” added Mr Brockhoff.
