Ram 1500 Rebel a ‘big deal’ Down Under

Beefed-up Ram 1500 Rebel to grow brand presence, appeal to Aussie ‘truck’ customers

1 Sep 2025

RAM Trucks Australia is on a steady sales trajectory with its full-size 1500 pick-up, the model range outselling its nearest rivals by a considerable number despite the recent shift to twin-turbocharged six-cylinder power – and a significant sticker price.

Yet, despite those apparent hurdles, the brand appears confident in its business model, investing significantly in a third model variant for remanufacturing at its Clayton South facility.

The newly announced 1500 Rebel joins the Laramie and Limited in challenging comers from Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota, continuing the expansion of US-sourced pick-up models in the land Down Under – and proving popular with rural Aussie buyers.

“The Ram 1500 Rebel might seem like just another model variant, but to us it is a big deal, and something we are very excited about,” said Ram Trucks Australia general manager Jeff Barber.

“In fact, we think the Rebel might become our biggest selling model once people get to experience it for themselves.

“We think the Rebel will find its place in the market quite quickly.”

Set to become a permanent feature in the Australian Ram 1500 line-up, the Rebel boasts high-clearance suspension from Bilstein, 32-inch Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tyres, a 313kW/635Nm twin-turbocharged Hurricane six-cylinder petrol engine, and Sports Hood (bonnet bulge) as standard.

Those features join five driving modes, underbody skid plates, up to 4500kg of braked towing capacity, 893kg of payload capacity, a locking rear differential, spray-in bed liner, powered tailgate, powder-coated steel bumpers, fender flares, and bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels.

The Ram 1500 Rebel is now available to order from $141,950 plus on-road costs.

Mr Barber said those attributes would see the Rebel appeal to a younger, outdoorsy buyer most likely living in a rural locale.

He said sales data collated by Ram Trucks Australia showed sales of models like the 1500 are centred in areas where the additional payload and towing capabilities were required on an almost daily basis, with many buyers combining their large four-wheel drive SUV and dual-cab ute into a model that can do it all.

“Our data shows most Ram pick-ups are sold on the fringes of our capital cities and in rural areas,” he stated.

“Customers are often trading large four-wheel drives like Nissan Patrols and Toyota LandCruisers because they need the extra roominess extra payload and (4500kg) towing capacity our trucks offer.

“And of course, as with most utes, a vehicle that can be used for both work and play.”

As well as being useful in a variety of roles, Mr Barber said Ram 1500 customers were also discerning in selecting a vehicle with a confident off-road ability, and a premium level of finish and equipment.

He said the more generous cabin accommodation offered in models like the 1500 is a clear driver in attracting buyers “upward” from dual-cab models in Australia’s dominant mid-sized utility segment, as is the level of amenity and technology – both on the connectivity and all-important safety fronts.

“We have been asked by consumers to bring it (the 1500 Rebel) to market, and this time around, the door was open for us to bring it in,” he added.

“So, we know our buyers like the ‘tough truck’ look. We also know they like having the extra capability, space, and comfort.

“Ram is really leaning into becoming a more premium offering … There are a lot of features offered here that are not standard (on equivalent models) in the States.

“It’s why I think the Rebel is a best-of-both-worlds variant. You get all the luxury during the week, and you’ve got a vehicle that very capable off-road on the weekend.”

To recap, the 1500 Rebel offers unique red-and-black interior trim combination, Rebel embroidery on the front seats, a panoramic sunroof, 19-speaker sound system, heated front and outboard rear seats, 12.0-inch digital instrument panel, 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment array, and a 10.25-inch passenger entertainment screen.

Crucial off-road geometry figures for the Ram 1500 Rebel include an approach angle of 20.9 degrees, break-over angle of 19.2 degrees, and departure angle of 22.2 degrees.

The variant further features LED headlights; bespoke grille, front bar, colour scheme, and badging; blackened mirror caps and door handles; wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity; dual wireless device charging pads; adaptive cruise control; front and rear parking sensors; and a rear-view camera.
