In a report citing sources familiar with the matter, French publication L’Informe said the manufacturer will axe the positions both in Paris and other locations worldwide.
The number of redundancies is said to represent around 15 per cent of the total number of staff employed in so-called support services roles.
In responding to L’Informe, Renault said that while it is considering cost cuts, it has yet to decide exact numbers, saying a final decision will be made by the end of the year (2025).
“Given the uncertainties in the automotive market and the extremely competitive environment, we confirm that we are considering ways to simplify our operations, speed up execution, and optimise our fixed costs,” said a Renault spokesperson.
At the end of 2024 Renault employed 98,636 staff worldwide.
In July, the manufacturer reported an €11.2 billion ($A19.8b) first-half net loss, including a €9.3 billion ($A16.4) write-down on partner Nissan.
Excluding the write-down, net income plunged to €461 million (€815.9m), less than a third of the year-earlier level, due to a weaker light commercial van market, costs associated with electric vehicles, and commercial pressures in a more competitive environment.
