Geely EX5 pricing still under wraps

EX5 a tech-packed “game changer”, says Geely Australia boss without confirming price

21 Feb 2025

DESPITE pre-orders now being open, Geely Australia is yet to confirm pricing for its incoming EX5 fully electric medium size SUV due to launch on March 11.

The Chinese importer suggests the two-grade EX5 line-up will be pitched between $49,000 and $55,000 excluding on-road costs, but has yet to commit to a retail figure.

Assuming the suggestion is accurate, the smooth-shaped EX5 SUV will go toe-to-toe with rivals including the Deepal S07 (from $53,900), Leapmotor C10 (from $45,888), Xpeng G6 (from $54,800), and Zeekr X (from $56,900).

It will also take on the segment’s biggest seller, the Tesla Model Y, available from $63,400.

Many other similar size alternatives are available with various powertrain choices including ICE and hybrid models from as little as $30,990 drive-away.

With known (established) brands available from that low level, Geely may struggle for traction if it kicks off at the speculated pricing schedule…

However, it says it has a comprehensive program in place to garner sales, starting from the pre-order process currently in place.

As an enticement, early buyers (before April 30) will receive complimentary scheduled servicing and potentially six months of free charging within the Evie charging network, valid for personal use only and capped at 1000kWh.

Other planned promotional tools include tapping dealer activations, addressing “objections” gleaned from marketing clinics, provide a high level of aftersales service, as well as the usual above-the-line advertising campaign.

Geely confidently says the EX5 is set to “redefine the electric vehicle experience for Australian consumers” and is “the best choice for drivers who value class-leading comfort, cutting-edge technology, and safety features in their vehicles.”

To that end, it comes equipped with a host of standard equipment (model dependent) including 18-or 19-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, keyless entry, a panoramic glass roof (Inspire grade only), electric tailgate, a 15.4-inch touchscreen media system with native sat nav, connected services, and via OTA updates later in the year smartphone mirroring tech.

Other kit, again model dependent, includes a 16-speaker Flyme sound system (including front headrest speakers), 10.25-inch driver info screen, head-up display, dual-zone climate control, and electrically adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions.

Earlier reports on the EX5 from pre-release drives in China reported that the “interior is a highlight, with some stunning finishes on offer and all of the geek-friendly goodies you’d expect”.

Geely says the 160kW/320Nm single motor front-wheel drive model can be recharged from 20-80 per cent in 20 minutes using a 100kW DC system or presumably the usual overnight using the on board 11kW system.

“We are excited for local customers to get their hands on the next-generation SUV, the Geely EX5, a product we are immensely proud of, a game changer,” said Geely Auto Australia head Lei Li.

“The EX5 brings together advanced safety features, innovative technology, and practicality while delivering a premium driving experience.

“We believe that this next generation of SUV will deliver new levels of innovation and technology, coupled with excellent value to our local consumers.”

Geely Australia already has 17 dealers signed up – mostly in metropolitan areas – and launches with what it describes as “ample” stock from March 11.
