New models - BYD - Sealion 6 - Extended RangeBYD adds Sealion 6 Extended RangeLarger battery capacity increases range of BYD Sealion 6 Dynamic by 45 per cent11 Aug 2025 By MATT BROGAN BYD is set to introduce an Extended Range version of its popular Sealion 6 Dynamic this month, the plug-in hybrid variant featuring a larger 26.6kWh Blade Battery (up from 18.3kWh) the Chinese importer says increases range by up to 45 per cent.
Priced from $46,990 plus on-road costs, or just $1000 more than the derivative variant, the BYD Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range is claimed to offer an all-electric driving range of up to 140km (+50km) depending on driving conditions, taking the total possible combined petrol and electric driving range of the vehicle to 1092km (WLTP).
Against the WLTP scale, the model is said to use as little as 1.1 litres of fuel per 100km.
“With this new variant, we’re giving customers more flexibility and more value,” said BYD Automotive Australia chief operating officer Stephen Collins.
“The Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range blends innovation, performance, and affordability in a way that truly redefines what Australians can expect from a plug-in hybrid SUV.”
Mr Collins said that with the average Australian commuting just 30km a day, the Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range “can serve as a near-full-time EV for daily driving, while maintaining long-range flexibility for weekends away, eliminating range anxiety once and for all”.
The BYD Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range offers identical trim and equipment standards as its Standard Range sibling, and like that model provides a choice of standard and premium paint ($900) hues including Arctic White, Stone Grey, Harbour Grey, and Cosmos Black.
