New models - Lexus - RX - 450h+Lexus RX 450h+ plug-in pricedAvailable from April, the Lexus RX 450h+ PHEV will be priced from $123,500 +ORC12 Feb 2025 By MATT BROGAN LEXUS Australia has confirmed the arrival of its RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) from April, with a starting price of $123,500 plus on-road costs.
Offered exclusively in Sports Luxury trim, the RX 450h+ is almost $10,000 more than the RX 350h Sports Luxury – but $4200 cheaper than the range-topping RX 500h F Performance.
Lexus says the RX 450h+ PHEV offers customers a means to reduce tailpipe CO2 emissions over comparable petrol-only vehicles without compromising on performance.
It is powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine combined in parallel with front and rear electric motors to produce a combined system output of 227kW, the system nearly identical to that of the NX 450h+.
A 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.5 seconds is quoted.
Electrical power is stored in an 18.1kWh lithium-ion battery pack enabling combined fuel consumption of as low as 1.3 litres per 100km (NEDC). Charging is via a 7kW AC (240-volt) plug.
Feature highlights of the 2025 Lexus RX 450h+ Sports Luxury include semi-aniline leather-accented upholstery in black, Solis White, or Dark Sepia, 10-way front seat adjustment with memory, heated and ventilated front and outboard rear seats, a woodgrain-look instrument panel and steering wheel ornamentation, as well as power reclining and folding rear seats.
Building on equipment offered in the RX 350h Sports Luxury, we also find a panoramic glass roof, digital rear-view mirror, and intelligent park assist functionality.
“Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are a key step in the customer journey from standalone internal combustion engines to full-electric mobility,” said Lexus Australia chief executive John Pappas.
“For many Lexus customers, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are the right powertrain for the moment, offering the best of both worlds as we continue to develop infrastructure to support a greater uptake of battery electric vehicles.”
Competing within the Large SUV over $80,000 segment, the Lexus RX sold 158 units to the end of January (2025), placing it in fourth place against the likes of the Kia EV6 (199 units), BMW X5 (184 units), and Land Rover Range Rover Sport (180).
The Lexus RX was closely trailed by the Land Rover Defender in January (with 156 unit sales), with other entrants including the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Wagon (123 units), Mazda CX-90 (86 units), and Jeep Grand Cherokee (71 units) performing steadily.
