News - MG - U9MG U9 local testing gets underwayThousands of kilometres of real-world testing to ensure MG U9 meets the Aussie conditions15 Apr 2025 By MATT BROGAN FOLLOWING the global reveal of the MG U9 light commercial utility at the recent Melbourne Motor Show comes news that the Chinese importer is preparing its latest entrant for local success with “thousands of kilometres of real-world testing”.
Led by MG Motor Australia, the local test regime is set to ensure the U9 dual-cab is “a true reflection of the brand’s commitment to delivering a ute built for Australian conditions and needs”, with rigorous urban and rural tuning to be undertaken by the brand’s in-house engineering team.
While promising the U9 will be “tough, capable, and tailored for Australian needs”, MG Motor says it will also offer a range of comfort and convenience features that ensure the model will compete with the strong competition already in the market.
“The reaction to the MG U9 at its global reveal at the Melbourne Motor Show was fantastic,” exclaimed MG Motor Australia chief executive officer Peter Ciao.
“We are proud to have unveiled MG Motor Australia’s first-ever ute – a vehicle designed, engineered, and refined by MG.
“Our local team is committed to fine-tuning the MG U9 over the coming months to meet the needs of Australian drivers.”
Early details of the U9’s equipment and specification detail reveal wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as standard, joining a 360-degree camera system, retractable tailgate step, MG Pilot semi-autonomous driving technologies and remote access iSmart app.
Under the bonnet, the MG U9 is confirmed as offering a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine shared with the LDV Terron 9 on which it is based. Outputting 160kW of power and 520Nm of torque, the U9 offers a four-wheel drive configuration as standard and 3500kg of braked towing ability.
“This is MG’s ute – tough, capable, and designed for the diverse conditions and demands of this country. Most importantly, it will offer incredible value for Australian families and tradespeople alike,” added Mr Ciao.
“We’ve already seen strong early interest from motorists registering for updates. We’re looking forward to sharing more with them in the lead-up to the MG U9’s launch later this year.”
Mr Ciao said the U9 will be available from MG’s extensive national dealer network in the fourth quarter of this year with pre-orders to open from H2. ![]() Read more7th of April 2025 ![]() MG to launch U9 ute this yearAustralia to receive LDV Terron 9 based MG U9 dual-cab ute in Q4 of this year7th of April 2025 ![]() Melbourne Motor Show a sell-out successTickets sell out as Aussie motorists rush to see the latest combustion and electric models4th of April 2025 ![]() Melbourne Show: Important MG S5 EV debutsMG S5 EV to vie in popular medium SUV segment as early specifications revealed |
